HPM Building Supply needed a more consistent and scalable way to manage security across its growing Hawaii operations. MPI Security Hawaii delivered an eight-month, phased modernization project covering 21 locations while coordinating the work around HPM’s active business operations.

The completed security ecosystem encompasses 418 commercial IP cameras, commercial security alarms managed through Alarm.com, fire-alarm monitoring across all locations, enhanced video management, remote viewing, access-control improvements, and the supporting infrastructure required for a dependable multi-location security platform.

The Customer: HPM Building Supply

HPM Building Supply is a Hawaii-based company serving customers through retail stores, lumberyards, warehouses, design centers, and operational facilities.

These diverse environments support customers, employees, contractors, inventory, vehicles, deliveries, and daily commercial activity. Protecting them requires more than a standard camera or alarm installation. HPM needed a coordinated security strategy capable of addressing different operational conditions across multiple locations.

The Challenge

HPM’s existing security environment included systems and equipment that had developed over time across different facilities.

This created several operational challenges:

  • Aging equipment and equipment failures

  • Limited camera coverage in important areas

  • Slow or difficult video retrieval

  • Limited remote viewing for management

  • Inconsistent security and alarm systems across locations

  • Difficulty managing authorized users

  • Coverage gaps in customer-facing and operational areas

  • The need for consistent fire-alarm monitoring

  • The need for reliable, long-term local service

HPM needed improved visibility across retail stores, lumberyards, warehouses, loading areas, parking areas, entrances and customer-service spaces.

The company also needed a centralized, cloud-managed security platform that could be managed more consistently and expanded as its operations evolved.

A Phased Commercial Security Modernization

MPI Security Hawaii began with detailed site assessments to understand the operational and security requirements at each HPM location.

The project was then planned and completed in phases over eight months. MPI coordinated installation activity around HPM’s ongoing operations to minimize disruption to customers, employees and daily business activity.

The completed project included:

  • 418 commercial IP cameras installed, upgraded, or incorporated into the completed system

  • A modern network video-recording and video-management platform

  • Commercial security-alarm systems connected through Alarm.com

  • Cloud-based alarm management across all HPM locations

  • Fire-alarm monitoring for every location

  • Secure remote viewing for authorized managers and location personnel

  • Expanded camera coverage in critical operational areas

  • Intrusion-alarm coverage across stores, warehouses and lumberyards

  • Access-control capabilities supporting approximately 50 doors

  • Security coverage for approximately 27 driveway and gate entrances

  • Networking, cabling, mounting, equipment racks, poles and supporting infrastructure

  • Repair, replacement and standardization of existing equipment

  • System training for approximately 30 HPM employees

  • Ongoing local service, monitoring and technical support

Where appropriate, the updated platform also provides capabilities such as intelligent video alerts and enhanced event detection.

Centralized Cloud Management With Alarm.com

MPI combined HPM’s commercial security-alarm systems with Alarm.com to provide cloud management across the company’s entire security-alarm ecosystem.

Instead of treating each location as a completely separate system, authorized personnel can manage alarm activity across multiple HPM facilities through a more centralized platform.

The Alarm.com platform provides HPM with:

  • Centralized management of security-alarm systems

  • Secure access for authorized managers and location personnel

  • Remote system visibility

  • Easier management of multiple locations

  • Alarm notifications and system-status information

  • More consistent user and system-management practices

  • A scalable foundation for future locations and system expansion

This cloud-managed approach gives HPM greater visibility into its security operations while making it easier to manage a large number of geographically separated facilities.

Fire-Alarm Monitoring Across All Locations

MPI also provides fire-alarm monitoring for all HPM locations included in the project.

This gives HPM a consistent monitoring relationship across its facilities while providing local support for service, system issues, and ongoing operational needs.

Combining fire-alarm monitoring, commercial security alarms, video surveillance, access control, and cloud management creates a more coordinated approach to protecting HPM’s employees, customers, inventory, and properties.

Designed Around Real Hawaii Operations

The HPM project involved a wide range of working environments. A retail store has different risks and coverage requirements than a lumberyard, warehouse, loading area, or gated entrance.

MPI designed the security coverage around how each property is actually used. This included evaluating customer and employee activity, vehicle movement, deliveries, inventory areas, restricted spaces, and after-hours conditions.

The project required more than installing cameras and alarms. It required local project management, careful scheduling, system standardization, employee training, and a long-term monitoring and service strategy.

The Results

The modernization gave HPM a more reliable, consistent, and scalable security foundation across its Hawaii operations.

Key results included:

  • Improved visibility across retail, warehouse, lumberyard, loading, parking, and entrance areas

  • Faster and easier access to recorded video

  • Cloud management of commercial security-alarm systems through Alarm.com

  • Fire-alarm monitoring across all locations

  • Remote system access for four authorized managers

  • Location-level access for approximately two to four authorized employees at each facility

  • Improved oversight of restricted and sensitive areas

  • Approximately 50 access-controlled doors

  • Security coverage supporting approximately 27 driveway and gate entrances

  • Approximately 30 employees trained on the updated systems

  • More consistent security management across locations

  • Improved visibility outside normal operating hours

  • Less time spent working around outdated or unreliable equipment

  • A platform that can support future expansion and changing operational requirements

The updated video-management and cloud-based alarm platforms help trained users find information and manage security activity more efficiently. Authorized leadership and location personnel can access the systems they need without depending on disconnected or difficult-to-use platforms.
